Beyond The Books
From 2019 to 2026, the Preke Town Book Club, developed in partnership with Newstalk 93FM, provided a platform for meaningful conversations about books, literacy, publishing, and creative writing. Through interviews with authors, publishers, poet laureates, educators, and publishing professionals from Jamaica, the United States, England, Pakistan, and other parts of the world, the program connected readers with the people and ideas shaping the literary landscape.
The program attracted hundreds of loyal listeners and built a strong online following through live streaming and digital engagement. With the encouragement and support of Keisha Powell and the leadership team at Newstalk 93FM, the Preke Town Book Club became a space where readers, aspiring writers, and industry professionals could come together to discuss storytelling, publishing, and the importance of reading in modern society.
As members of the Book Industry Association of Jamaica, the team also benefited from the support of key partners within Jamaica’s literary community, including Hodder Education, the Jamaica Library Service, and Carlong Publishers, among others. These relationships helped expand the reach of the programme and strengthened its mission of promoting literacy, lifelong learning, and a vibrant reading culture throughout Jamaica and beyond.

Engaging Storytelling
The Preke Town Chronicles team actively supports literacy and Jamaican publishing through school visits, library presentations, reading initiatives, and community outreach activities across the island. We are proud supporters of local authors, local publishing, and efforts that encourage children to discover the joy of reading.
Throughout the year, the team participates in literacy-focused events, including Read Across Jamaica Day, and regularly makes themselves available for live readings, book discussions, and educational engagements. Whether promoting The Preke Town Chronicles or supporting the work of fellow authors and publishers, we believe every opportunity to place a book in a child’s hands is an opportunity to inspire a lifelong reader.
Each story in The Preke Town Chronicles is carefully crafted to engage young minds through adventure, humour, mystery, and meaningful life lessons. While the series is designed for middle-grade readers, the books intentionally challenge young audiences by incorporating rich vocabulary, authentic cultural experiences, and real-world references that encourage curiosity and learning beyond the page.
From Jamaican locations, traditions, and folklore to references that spark further research and discussion, the series aims to stretch readers intellectually while remaining entertaining and accessible. Our goal is not only to tell memorable stories, but also to help develop confident readers who are prepared to explore increasingly complex ideas, language, and literature as they grow.
Community and Culture
At The Preke Town Chronicles, we believe that stories should do more than entertain. They should strengthen communities, encourage compassion, and inspire young people to make a positive difference in the lives of others. As a result, community service and cultural engagement remain important parts of the Preke Town mission.
During 2026, proceeds from sales of The Preke Town Chronicles will contribute to year-end initiatives supporting both the continued upkeep and improvement of facilities at Kingsway Preparatory School, a Seventh-day Adventist educational institution in Jamaica, and the annual children’s Christmas outreach programmes organized by the Kiwanis Club of Downtown Kingston. Through these initiatives, hospitalized children at the University Hospital of the West Indies and Bustamante Hospital for Children receive Christmas gifts, treats, and encouragement during the holiday season.
These efforts reflect the values that have always been at the heart of Preke Town. We believe that books can build bridges between people, strengthen communities, and create opportunities for service beyond the printed page. By supporting literacy, education, and charitable outreach, we hope to contribute positively to the lives of children both inside and outside the world of our stories.
The Preke Town Chronicles celebrates community values, showcasing the beauty of friendship, faith, kindness, and service through engaging storytelling. Through the adventures of its characters, the series encourages young readers to care for others, appreciate their culture, and recognize the importance of becoming positive contributors to their communities.
